Longan

Longan, also known as “dragons eye” because of its slitted jet black eye pit, are soft and smaller than lychees. Longans originated in China and and is now widely cultivated in Thailand, India and in several other Asian countries. The fruits have a dull brown and fragile skin, with translucent flesh that has a unique musky sweet grape-like flavour. Longans are highly popular for their medicinal benefits as they help to relax the nerves for people suffering from insomnia, lower irritability and reduce fatigue. Longan is a summer fruit and can be consumed both fresh and dried, or boiled with a pinch of sugar to make refreshing juice.
