Longans originated in China and and is now widely cultivated in Thailand, India and in several other Asian countries. The fruits have a dull brown and fragile skin, with translucent flesh that has a unique musky sweet grape-like flavour. Longans are highly popular for their medicinal benefits as they help to relax the nerves for people suffering from insomnia, lower irritability and reduce fatigue. Longan is a summer fruit and can be consumed both fresh and dried, or boiled with a pinch of sugar to make refreshing juice.
